HONOLULU - The latest products and services promoting
independence and quality of life for people with disabilities, their families
and our aging population will be in the spotlight when the Harry and Jeanette
Weinberg Foundation Presents Tools for Life Expo 2000.
The informative two-day trade show will be held March 7 & 8, 2000 from
11:00 am to 6:00 pm at the Neil Blaisdell Center Exhibition Hall in Honolulu.
Admission is free.
It is estimated that more than
55 million Americans have some sort of disability. The Tools for
Life Expo is dedicated to improving quality of life, said Sharon Fountain,
Exposition director. The trade show will feature a variety of products,
services and technical guidance to enhance accessibility, health,
independent and safe living at home, in the workplace and in business.
Among the products on display will
be adaptive technology, adapted vehicles, specialized communications equipment,
computers, construction materials, health and medical supplies, service
providers, nutritional products, recreational equipment and more. Special
Events include a display of The Kitchen of Tomorrow as well as an accessible
bathroom. Children with disabilities and their parents can see and experience
state of the art computer equipment that promotes independent living and
full inclusion into society.
In addition to featuring resources
for independent living, the exposition will also provide legal information
updates on the Americans With Disabilities Act which will be of special
interest to business owners and managers. Facility operators needing to
provide accessibility to consumers and the general public are especially
encouraged to attend these updates.
Workshops and seminars will be
presented by the organizing partners of the Expo, and include the Assistive
Technology Resource Centers of Hawaii, Disability and Communications Access
Board, Hawaii Association for Home Care and Hawaii Center for Independent
Living.
As an added attraction, there will
be a drawing for a grand prize Las Vegas trip for two.
The Tools for Life Expo is produced
by Access Projects Hawaii, Inc.and sponsored by the Harry & Jeanette
Weinberg Foundation. Additional support is being provided by American
